AICTE, Govt. of India organized a talk on “Energy Swaraj – An essence of sustainability” on 11th March 2021 at AICTE auditorium. The talk was delivered by renowned solar energy expert, Prof. Chetan Singh Solanki from Department of Energy Science and Engg., Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Bombay, Mumbai, Maharashtra, India.
Our students and faculty attended the seminar and learnt important facts about energy. In the seminar, we also learnt that energy is a major contributor to carbon emissions and hence, consequential climate change. In the last 20-30 years, we have seen a steep rise in carbon emissions crossing over 415 ppm. Given the current trajectory of energy consumption and thereof generation, energy will become a commodity that will be accessible only to the rich and the poor who have been categorically denied access to it for centuries will be compelled to live in the darkness forever.
